It’s fascinating to assess what makes companies thrive

After studying Economics at university, I went straight into the asset management industry rather than take the more traditional banking or consulting route. I found this to be an amazing environment to learn. You get autonomy to think at the age of 21: you have to build your own models, host meetings with founders and CEOs, and make your own investment recommendations at an early stage in your career. It is a sink-or-swim environment, but also one that encourages creative thinking and a deep fascination in understanding why some companies thrive. This question remains at the top of my mind to this day.

Information brings a distinctive structural advantage

There are many ways to successfully invest, but having the correct building blocks and freedom of thought is common across great firms. At Advent Global Opportunities we major in access to information. Being part of a private equity firm with 35+ years of history, a global presence and no information barriers is the foundation upon which we were built.

Advent is a firm that has a culture of collaboration & diversity of thought

Having a smart investment team and a resource advantage alone is not enough. People are busy, and you cannot fake a culture of collaboration. We aim to have low-ego, open-minded team players who are passionate about investing. This enables us to fully integrate with our global colleagues, and encourages lively debate in a flat, consensus-driven environment.

By design, our team is diverse in their backgrounds and interests. I grew up on the south coast of England and I’m still happiest when I find time to get on the sea: sailing, kitesurfing or kayaking!
