I wear two hats in my role at Advent Global Opportunities
I started out as a lawyer in private practice at a large New York law firm. I then went in-house to a quant shop, and later to a large asset management firm, where I helped grow out their capabilities in the private funds space. Here, I’m dual-hatted, as both Chief Compliance Officer and Counsel. We’ve always had a strong legal and compliance operation – both, within Advent Global Opportunities as well as components that we share with Advent, and we can leverage their resources. I think that gives us an advantage that no other similarly-sized firm has.
The people and culture make this place what it is
We have a phenomenal team of incredibly smart, competent people. It makes a big difference to be surrounded by people you genuinely like, so that you look forward to meeting in the office and strengthening the relationship outside of work. That’s probably the biggest driver that motivated me to want to be part of this team. And from my standpoint, it’s also great that they instinctively have a fiduciary-first mindset. We want to do right by our investors, first and foremost, and we never want to be on the wrong side of regulation.
Everyone is encouraged to speak freely, and we take diversity seriously
We don’t have any information silos, and I think the fact that everyone is invited to investment committee meetings is indicative of a highly inclusive and collaborative environment. It’s a safe space to share any opinion. Ideas are welcomed, and you can challenge the status quo without any fear of disrepute. What’s more, diversity is ingrained in the Advent culture. It’s well appreciated that we need diverse opinions to be better investors, and I think that, by many dimensions, we have a diverse team. This past summer, all our interns in both Boston and London were female. For me, Advent Global Opportunities has felt uniquely welcoming relative to the industry.
Out of the office, travel and fitness provide balance
When I’m not at work, I like to stay active – I’ve rarely met a boutique fitness class I didn’t enjoy. I also travel as much as possible. Most recently, my focus has been on exploring some of the less-visited parts of Italy.
